Michail Antonio admits he might not be fit for start of 2016/17

West Ham may have to begin next season without Michail Antonio.

Dan Coombs

West Ham winger Michail Antonio says he is unable to guarantee he will be fit for the start of the 2016/17 season.

Antonio signed a new contract at West Ham yesterday, committing his future to the club until 2021.

He is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and it is a serious one which will hamper his pre-season.

Speaking to the official club website, Antonio says he may only be recovered for late August, rather than the beginning of the campaign.

He said: "The rehab is going well, right now I’m still on the crutches and will be for the next week and after that I’ll be off them.

"I’ll start doing some strength work for the next two, three, four weeks, then I’ll be outside doing running and I’ll be in and out of training to get my way back in for the start of the season.

“It’s either I’ll be back for the first couple of games or, the worst case scenario, I’ll be back fully available for the team after the international break at the end of August."

Re: Antonio pens new 4 year contract
because that was what was negotiated?

his last contract was 4 seasons too, this takes him up to 31. i don't see the issue? if he had signed a 5 year deal that would've taken him to 32, if he then gets offered another year extension on that in the next season or so, then he'd be under a big contract at 33, by when his pace could easily have gone.

Oh and I'd never seen that Valentines Day advert before, so thanks for that. He was perfectly cast for that, it must have been written for him. Good fun. You've got to love this boy.

Re: Antonio pens new 4 year contract
This is simply excellent news.

He is son hungry to get better, and he's just made as much of a committment a player can in doing that with us, and I believe he will get better, because of that hunger.

I hope Southgate see what he is, then the international breaks won't be boring.

Re: Antonio pens new 4 year contract
I imagine they aren't all that interested in Antonio signing a contract.
More interested in making up rubbish about him rejecting contracts and wanting to leave.

Re: Antonio pens new 4 year contract
don't you find it strange that all these journalists that can predict what players we are signing in the summer on loan and their wages and where else they are thinking of going.

yet they didn't know that Antonio was going to sign a new contract last night ready for today's papers.

Goes to show what wankers they all are with their bullshit ITK whispers to make themselves look good.

When will journalists be made to report fact rather than fiction.

Great news he has signed.

Re: Antonio pens new 4 year contract
JT is apparently a huge disappointment (so says his Mum), hence why he only ever goes for vulnerable birds on the rebound. So Mrs Payet would have been even less happy!

What if we had brought in JT, and he slept with Payet's wife? May have evened things up enough for him to stay
